Memories of Devora by Dora Lee Grinberg
I
am the Music Teacher for the Beth Yeshurun Day School and Religious
School. I have worked very closely with Devora over the years and have
loved every minute of it. Her enthusiasm and zest for life was
contagious. It couldn't help but rub off on all of those she had
contact with. The children adored her. They couldn't wait each week for
her to lead the service in the special way she did and give a rousing
D'var Torah. She sang with such enthusiasm, and they sang right along
with her with much love and spirit.
Her passing is such a
personal loss for me. We worked so closely each week. She always put me
in the right direction when I was searching for just the right song for
a Shabbat Service for the kids. When I wanted to know exactly what a
prayer meant in English so I could explain it to the kids, she was
always there to help me. Devora never turned me away when I needed
advice or just wanted to talk about my own children or grandchildren.
She was always interested in every aspect of everyone's lives.
Devora's
family was so important to her. I would listen to her when she wanted
to brag about one of the kids' accomplishments, and sharing the
pictures of Tzi's wedding was definitely a high point for her. She
enjoyed every minute of telling me all about how wonderful it was.
Devora
often told me how special each of her children are, and she talked
often of her love for her Mark and her siblings and their families.
Sometimes
I would be in Devora's office having a meeting and one of her parents
would call. Her eyes lit up, and she had such a special and soft tone
to her voice. She worried so about them and loved them so much.
Devora
was indeed a special woman. She was brilliant, compassionate, and above
all, a great friend and human being. I will truly miss her, but I feel
blessed that I had the opportunity to know her and work with her.
